MALAI CHAMP (SOYABEAN)
INGREDIENTS
- Soyabean champ-300 grams (10-12 sticks)
- Tomatoes-5-6 medium sized
- Cream-4 tablespoons
- Red chilli powder-1/2 teaspoon
- Kasoori methi-1 teaspoon
- Salt to taste
- Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder-1/2 teaspoon
- Asafoetida-a pinch
- Cumin seeds (jeera)-1/2 teaspoon
- Ginger sliced-1/2 inch
- Green chillies-2
- Garam masala powder-1/4 teaspoon
- Oil-2 tablespoons
METHOD
- Remove the sticks from the soyabean champ.
- Add them to the boiling hot water & boil for 2 minutes.
- Then, drain out the excess water & allow them to dry for around 10-15 minutes.
- Cut the champ into small pieces & arrange them on the roasting sticks provided with the oven.
- Roast them in the oven at 250 degrees celsius for around 10-15 minutes or until brown.
- Once roasted, keep them aside.
- Next, heat oil in a pan.
- Add asafoetida & cumin seeds (jeera).
- As they crackle, add ginger.
- As ginger turns golden, add the turmeric powder.
- Next, add the sliced tomatoes & the green chillies.
- Fry the tomatoes till they are half cooked.
- Once they are half cooked, turn off the flame & allow the mixture to cool down.
- Once the mixture cools down, grind it to a fine paste in a mixer grinder.
- Then, pour it back to the pan & turn on the flame.
- As the mixture starts leaving oil, add red chilli powder, salt, kasoori methi & coriander powder & mix well.
- To this masala, add the roasted soyabean champ & fry them together for around 2 minutes.
- Add 2 cups water to make gravy.
- Bring it to a good boil & lower the flame & cover the pan with a lid till the water gets almost half of what was originally added.
- Then, add cream on a low flame & allow it to get cooked on a low flame till a thick gravy is formed.
- Add the garam masala powder at the end & mix well.
- Malai soyabean champ is ready to serve.
